Firearms are the great equalizer, but haven't fully supplanted a well trained archer in the field, and melee combat is a common occurrence that all soldiers are equipped and trained for.

All coal is dirty coal, poorly burned. Great plumes of black, sooty smoke rise from the factories and steam engines of the day, forcing many in the big cities to cover their faces when outside and wear goggles when necessary. Soot covers everything quickly, and a great sign of wealth are the countless servants that keep constant vigilance to keep their master's household clean at all times. A spotless estate in a metropolis is truly the sign of a wealthy family.

Sole purveyors of both healing magic and artificial intelligences, which by treaty they can protect with violence, but would do so without treaty anyway. Extra-national, main church is like the Vatican See.

Tobacco is commonly smoked in cigars, and in fine, flavoured cigarettes for the wealthy, and in a pipe for the old or just old fashioned.

Their are humans, dwarfs, elves and goblins as the common PC races, and many separate kingdoms on the brink of, or at war.
